Are you having post Samhain Regrets?

Updated: Sep 26, 2022

For anyone who is having post Samhain regret, for instance, maybe you had a whole ceremony planned but didn't have the energy to follow through, maybe you did a little something but are feeling bad that it wasn't witchy enough!

Well. First I want to say, it makes it easier if you consider your witchy spiritual practice as a 'practice.' Every 45 days we get another opportunity to deepen our connection to spiritual ceremonial experiences. I think it’s easy to think that a big holiday like Samhain is really important but truly everyday witching is just as important, as long as it supports your heart and soul. I also believe perfection is a joy stealer. I encourage people to let go of perfection. A perfect ‘looking’ Samhain takes more work than a meaningful Samhain.

Have no fear! There is opportunity here! For the next few days, I believe we are in a window of Samhain energy. We have a new moon on Thursday, November 4th at 2:14pm PST. So we have a few more days to do that magic you had planned.

A few of my favorite Samhain magical tasks:

Do a tarot or an oracle card spread for the coming year. Base your spread on the moons of the year, or the eight holidays or on the months of the solar calendar. However it makes your heart sing! Write these in your journal and refer to them throughout the year.

Make an offering to the Spirits. Make an offering to the land spirits, to the dead, to the hidden folk or to your spirit guides. One way you can do this by taking a small portion of your meal, the best parts usually and make a plate as the offering. Set the plate out overnight where the furry family members won’t eat it or outside next to your front door. The next day bury that meal in the earth.

Do a guided meditation to release the old and welcome the new. There are tons of guided meditations on you tube or tiktok. Find one that supports you. And allow that to be enough.

Normally post-Halloween I create my Ancestor Altar. This year I am waiting until after November 4th to put up my Altar. Each year I listen to the spirits, and put my altar up some time between October 29-Nov 8th, for me each year the time that the altar goes up changes. This year I am motivated by the cycle of the moon. It feels appropriate the put up the altar after the crest of the new moon.

Keep a look out for posts about Ancestor Altars. I will be talking a lot about this in the next few weeks. And check out the Ancestor Medicine book club, I am offering in November 2021.
